We wanted to take our new car for a drive so we headed up to Clacton on Sea for the day. Its just like any other English sea side town with big pier and tacky entertainment. You've seen one seaside town, you've seen em all! |

Martello towers on the water front. The towers were built all along the Sussex (and South) coast during the early 1800's as part of the defense plans to hold off Napoleons invasion of England. At around £3000 (at the time) for each of the roughly 100 towers, these were massively costly For England, only made worse by the fact that the building had of the towers commenced after Nelsons victory at Trafalgar when the French threat had already died down. |
