Ryan Air had cheap flights to Germany so Scott booked 3 tickets to Frankfurt Hahn...only to find that Frankfurt Hahn is damn well just about on another continent and no where near Frankfurt, which is where Scott wanted to go! Then a friend of ours mentioned we should go and stay in a small town, but the town he mentioned was near Hamburg...which again was just about in another time zone to where Frankfurt Hahn is! :)

In the end we hired a car at the airport and booked in to a hotel in Trier, which is about a 30 minute drive from Luxembourg and a 60 minute drive from the airport. Trier is also the oldest city in Germany and the birth place of Karl Marx.

The hotel we stayed in was a bit of a walk from the city centre but the walk itself was well worth the effort. Strolling down the Moselle River in a sunny winters day was great!
Michelle next to the Porta Nigra, an old Roman city gate.
The Black Gate from the other side.
The Hauptmarkt, the main marketplace in Trier. Behind where the photo was taken are a number of really nice christmas shops, where Michelle could have spent all weekend!
Scott got all excited when he saw these guys because last year they also played at his work in London. While Scott enjoyed the band Eimii and Michelle went shopping :)
Afternoon tea in a pleasant German Cafe. Great place for people watching :)

Eimii in front of the Kurfurstliche Palaise (Electoral Palace).
Killer ducks in the Electoral Palace gardens :)
Monkey on the Eimii bars.
Eimii and Michelle next to the Konstatin Basilika.
Must be hell getting good fitting shoes?
The Hauptmarkt at night.
The Organ inside the Trier Cathedral. This was taken on Sunday while the Cathedral was in use for Sunday Service.
Michelle next to Santa?
The yard in front of the Cathedral was where the Trier Christmas market is being held, unfortunately we were a week too early!
The Market Cross. The original was erected in the 9th century (now in the museum).
The Spielzeugmuseum (brown building in the centre). We tried to find the Toy Museum on Saturday but instead ended up wondering around Trier looking at everything else :) The museum itself is pretty neat and on the ground floor is a rather nice Cafe.
Reminder of less innocent times.
:)
Eimii all rugged up against the wind and rain. On Saturday Scott had hoped that Germany was nothing like England where nothing opened until 12noon. Well he was right, Germany is nothing like England because nothing opened at all!!!
