We had toyed with the idea of going to the Notting Hill Carnival last year when Whetu and Nell where here. We had grand plans of going early to the Carnival and then leaving in the afternoon and heading out to Heathrow to drop our visitors off at the airport, but just as well we didn't because the Notting Hill Carnival is just madness! Pure, unadulterated madness! :)

Colourful streets of Notting Hill Best seat in the house!
On Saturday was the kids carnival and we ummed and hahhed about going but decided to go to the main day on Saturday. We got down to Notting Hill about 12noon just in time to catch the first floats of the day go past. Around 4pm we decided to go for a walk and then head home but even then floats were still coming past us!

Enjoying the days events :)
Curious George?
Nearly 1 million people were at the carnival!
Police brutality! There was a massive police presence at the Carnival and the mounted police went out of their way to be accessible to the public. Some tourists were talking to the mounted police and he told them his horse likes straw hats. So the tourist gave the hat to the horse (so he could get a photo) to hold in its mouth but then the other horse reached over and ripped the hat in half and started to eat it :)
One of the many street artists that were dotted around the carnival. This picture was made with spray paint. Eimii thought he was very clever :)
