Long weekend in Manchester

Over the weekend of the 18th, 19th and 20th of November we decided to head up to Manchester for some relaxing time away from home before Scott gets caught up at work once again. The first thing we did once we got to our hotel was to go for a swim in its heated pool! Talk about bliss!

We are thinking seriously about returning later in December with Whetu so we can explore Blackpool, Liverpool, Manchester Science Museum and all the other places we have seen yet, but time will tell.

On the way up we decided to take a side trip to Rugby and managed to do some christmas shopping at the same time!
The Lowry Centre in Manchester. Home to brand name outlets, a cool theatre AND the Northern Imperial War Museum (IWM).
The bridge to the Imperial War Museum.
Michelle's broach.
Michelle and Eimi walking to the IWM.
This sculpture had a number of hand written plates on it from children. Some were rather amusing but far too many were quite sad and moving.
The IWM in late evening (ie around 4pm! :)
While Eimi and Michelle went and made postcards Scott waited around for the multimedia show to start. Expecting things to pop up on monitors it was a surprise to see every flat space in the museum being used to project images on to!
Eimi enjoying her time at the museum :)
The mist in the morning as we left our hotel.
On Saturday night we went and watched the latest Harry Potter movie, which turned in to an experience all in itself when the crowd was made to wait because the film was running late. Scott reckons the two most dangerous things in the world is a confined space and large numbers of English! :)
On Sunday after we left out hotel on a bitterly cold morning we headed over to Stockport to go...yes...shopping! Michelle wanted to go to Hobbycraft while in Manchester so off to Hobbycraft we went. After we finished there we headed off to the Hat Museum. Even Eimi enjoyed this museum. We often wonder whether Eimi's only memories of living in Europe is going to be of Museums and Cathedrals! :)
