Paul and Karen arrived in England on Thursday the 6th of April only to get on another plane the following morning and head off to Amsterdam with Jason and us for a long weekend away. The coolest thing about the airport in Amsterdam is just how easy (and CHEAP) it was to get to the central city! The train station runs right under the main terminal and for around 5euros you could get to the city in about 15 minutes!

The Boat

Our accommodation in Amsterdam was a houseboat we found while surfing the net! It turned out to be quite a nice place to stay with heaps of room inside for everyone. However when we first got to Amsterdam the directions Scott had took us to another boat that looked nothing like the advertising literature we had taken with us! But it turned out the boat we were standing by was actually the owners home and not the place we had paid for to stay in :)

On Saturday we walked around Amsterdam and generally took the sites in. Unlike London, Amsterdam, and indeed all of the Netherlands is an outdoor persons dream! The other cool thing about Amsterdam is that its compact. It doesn't take long to get anywhere when you walk.

This was typical of many buildings around Amsterdam. Apparently taxes used to be judged on building width, so to get around this the inhabitants built up and back but with really small widths. So you got lots of tall skinny buildings everywhere!
