August 2006 - Iztuzu (Turtle) Beach

Our first trip to Iztuzu Beach was on one of the local dolmus. The bus end of the beach is much quieter than the boat end (which is about a 5km walk) where all the mass market tourists end up!
However you have to also take the boat to the beach to appreciate the beauty of the local area.
Ancient Lycian tombs carved in to the rock face.
Traveling through the reed beds.

All along the beach are these cages, which are there to stop people from accidentally walking over turtle nests. During the summer the beach closes at 8pm and everyone has to leave.

The truly great thing about this part of the Mediterranean Coast is that it is undeveloped!

There are no mega tacky hotels full of English, Dutch and German tourists all smoking like trains and no pubs or night clubs polluting the air with the techno drivel they call music or commentary from the latest Premiership soccer game!
