Ever since we got to London we would always look up at the street signs that said "Strand", "Whitehall", "Northumberland" etc and think, gee, wouldn't it be cool to do a Monopoly Walk?
Well, until now there hadn't been a day that was just cold, wet or windy enough to make the walk worthwhile! However on the 30th of December we were delivered a day just right for such a walk :) It dawned cold, wet and windy so we just had to go and find as many streets from the game as we could :)
In the end we returned home triumphant, wet and cold but triumphant none the less! However we did leave a few streets for another rainy day :)
Standing in Whitehall, the seat of the Civil Service in England! |
Northumberland Street. Strange street with a mixture of boarded up buildings, fancy old mansions and new hotels. |
Standing on the corner of The Strand and Picadilly Circus. |
Trafalgar Square, Whetu making good use of her raincoat! |
Leicester Square, Eimii, Whetu and Michelle standing next to one of the many advertising boards that can be found in this area! |
Watching street performer on the edge of Leicester Square and Coventry Street (guy dressed as a gladiator and standing still, the things that pass for entertainment :) |
Coventry Street. We hadn't realised Coventry Street runs off Picadilly Circus and in to Leicester Square! And we come up here just about every weekend as we head to Kohanga! |
Picadilly and its ubiquitous electronic advertising. |
Standing at the entrance to the underground at Picadilly. |
Regent Street and the worlds most famous toy store (Hamleys, just in case its not so famous because you haven't heard of it). |
Oxford Street. When we first arrived in London we went to Oxford Street during the Christmas sales and Eimii announced that she didn't like England because people just threw everything on the floor after they had finished! |
|
Bond Street. Not a lot down here, except lots of rain and wind! Bond Street is one of those places you only use to get you somewhere else :) |
Park Lane. Which is actually just to the right of Marble Arch (behind the girls). |
|
We couldn't agree about Mayfair in whether the game was referring to a Mayfair area or a Mayfair Street because there is no Mayfair Street in the London A-Z??? Here Michelle struggles with the wind and her brolly :) |
